Description:
Overall reddish duck--head, breast, sides red. Black spatulate bill, back with dark feathers edged buff. Black undertail coverts. Small duck, same size as the five Blue-winged Teal it was with.

Behavior:
Swimming and feeding by dabbling with Blue-winged Teal. Very active. Bobbed head often; breeding display perhaps? Photos and video shows appearance and behavior.

Separation from similar species:
Overall reddish color very distinctive. No other duck is that color. Small duck, same size and Blue-winged Teal.

Discussion:
No bands on legs. Legs visible when the bird was dabbling.

How positive are you about the identification:
Yes, The bird was discovered the previous day and observed by many observers. While backlit, viewing was good through the scope and the video and photos in my ebird checklist show the reddish color of the bird, even though the images are not great, they do document the bird.
